Berries and Cream Crostata

- 2 pints mixed berries, chopped
- ¾ cup sugar, divided
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 8oz package of cream cheese, softened
- ½ tsp almond extract
- 1 package of refrigerated pie dough (two discs come in each package
- 1 egg, gently whisked
- turbinado sugar to taste
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- In a large bowl, gently toss the berries, ¼ cup of sugar, and the vanilla extract. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the cheese, ½ cup of sugar, and almond extract.
- Roll out the two pie crusts, and spread a layer of the cream cheese mix on each, leaving a one-inch border. Spoon the berry mixture on top.
- Fold the edges of the pie crust over, to form a border.
- Brush the edges of the crust with the whisked egg, and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool before slicing. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
This recipe makes two medium-sized crostatas.
